BEAUTIFUL NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY IN HAMPTON ROADS
First, I am a parent, too. I understand your concerns: Will my younger newborn cooperate? What styles or colors should they wear? What do we do with our hands? Where should the pictures be taken? Relax; I’ve got this!
I want you to be confident that I will patiently wait for the smiles and adorableness in your newborn session. I photograph expecting mothers, newborn babies, and families. I am grateful that you have considered me to capture the moments that you and your family will treasure for years to come. My services are available in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and across the Hampton Roads area. My Goal: No one wants their newborn photographer to just snap 50 mediocre images of their baby. I will make every effort to deliver the precious, bring a tear to your eyes, unforgettable, perfect images that you will cherish forever. That is what I strive to create for one of my clients.
Newborn sessions are held near you in my home studio in Chesapeake or Lifestyle sessions in the comfort of your home. Newborn photo sessions are most often held within the first 3-10 days after birth. We recommend booking while you are still pregnant (7-8 months) to ensure a higher chance of getting on our calendar when your baby arrives. From our very first contact and pre-session consulting you will enjoy my complete and full attention. During your consultation we will work together to understand the vision of your newborn portraits. Last is the fun part where we photograph your beautiful newborn baby.

The Beauty of New Life: A Guide to Newborn Photography
The arrival of a new baby is a miraculous event filled with overwhelming love, joy, and awe. Newborn photography seeks to capture the delicate essence of a baby’s first days, preserving the innocence and wonder of this once-in-a-lifetime stage. In this guide, we’ll explore the beauty of newborn photography and offer tips on how to create stunning, meaningful images that families will treasure for generations.
Why Newborn Photography Matters
Every parent understands that time flies, and babies change quickly. Newborn photography offers a way to freeze time, capturing the intricate details and fleeting expressions that will soon evolve. These images not only serve as cherished keepsakes, but they also provide a visual narrative of a family’s journey.
Essential Gear for Newborn Photography
To create professional-quality images, you’ll need the right equipment. Here are a few essentials for newborn photography:
- Camera: A high-quality digital SLR (DSLR) or mirrorless camera is crucial to capture sharp, well-lit images.
- Lenses: A prime lens, such as a 50mm or 35mm, is ideal for newborn photography. A macro lens is also helpful for capturing close-up details like tiny fingers and toes.
- Tripod: To ensure stability and prevent camera shake, use a tripod when shooting.
- Softbox or Umbrella: Use a softbox or umbrella to diffuse natural or artificial light, creating a soft, even illumination on the baby.
- Props and Backdrops: Use simple, neutral backdrops and props to enhance the image without detracting from the baby’s natural beauty.
Creating a Comfortable Environment
The key to a successful newborn photo session is a calm, comfortable baby. Here are some tips for setting the stage:
- Warmth: Keep the room temperature around 80°F to keep the baby cozy, especially during naked or partially clothed shots.
- Noise: Use a white noise machine or a smartphone app to create a soothing background sound.
- Feeding: Encourage parents to feed the baby before the session to ensure they are content and sleepy.
Capturing Authentic Moments
Genuine emotion and connection are the heart of newborn photography. Encourage parents to interact with their baby, capturing candid moments such as kisses, cuddles, and gazes. Allow the baby’s natural movements and expressions to guide the session, rather than trying to force poses.
Safety First
Always prioritize the baby’s safety during a newborn session. Keep a spotter (usually one of the parents) nearby to assist with poses and ensure the baby is secure. Avoid using heavy or unsafe props, and always sanitize your hands and equipment before handling the baby.
Newborn photography is a beautiful and rewarding art form that allows families to celebrate the miracle of new life. By creating a comfortable environment, using appropriate equipment, and focusing on capturing authentic moments, you’ll create stunning images that will be cherished for generations. Remember, the most important element in newborn photography is the love and connection between the baby and their family – so let that be your guiding light.
